What will ET2000 give you?
Although the comprehensive communications programme remains at the heart
of ET 2000, we shall also be assisting our members to become recognised
Eyecare Information Centres within their own practices. Only ET 2000
members receive material that will enable them to identify their practice
as an Eyecare Information Centre, while all our media campaigns will
refer people to these centres.
Information leaflets produced by the ET have always been extremely
popular, but up to now members have had to purchase supplies. When you
join ET 2000 you will receive a generous free supply of leaflets every
year, with additional supplies available at a much reduced cost.
Enclosed with the starter pack are 100 copies of a new leaflet dealing
with the Eye Examination (ideal to send out with reminders), together
with 50 copies each of our new leaflets on Caring for Your Child's Eyesight;
Driving with good vision; Your Eyes and VDUs; Contact Lenses: Vision
for Today; Your Most Frequently Asked Questions; and Looking Good, Seeing
Well, Feeling Great. Members will receive the same quantity again every
year and extra copies can be ordered at just £8 per 100.
Clinical issues with less frequently requested subjects will now be
dealt with in a new series of regularly updated ET fact sheets, available
free to members as hard copies or downloaded from the new ET website.
ET leaflets will no longer be available to non-members (with the exception
of Health Authorities etc.).
What does membership cost?
In the past, ET has been funded partly through membership subscriptions,
contributions made via the NHS levy system and donations from larger
organisations such as the optical multiples and various industry associations.
With the introduction of ET 2000, the NHS levy system is being phased
out to make the ET subscriptions fairer for all. At present, those practices
with a high proportion of NHS patients often contribute more than the
wealthy practices with a lower percentage of NHS work, but now there
will be one subscription for all: £250 per annum. Where members
have more than one practice in the same ownership, each additional practice
will be charged at £175, but will still receive full membership
benefits.
To achieve the scale and scope of activity we have planned, we are
also seeking to cover the cost of certain major projects - notably National
Eye Week - by securing sponsorship both from within and outside the
optical industry, thus delivering even greater value in terms of marketing
support for our members.
Our aim is to enrol the entire optical profession as an information
service to the public. It's a fair price to pay to promote the future
of our profession and by supporting ET you will be supporting your own
business and the whole future of good eyecare in Britain.
