Trust Announces Plans for National Eye Week
The Eyecare Trust today (10 July) announced that HealthSure, one of the UK’s leading and most innovative healthcare cash plan providers, is to sponsor National Eye Week 2006.
The twelfth annual awareness week, which runs from 11 – 17 September, will aim to put eyecare at the heart of the public’s health agenda and encourage everyone to have regular eye examinations as part of a healthy lifestyle.
The underlying proposition for the campaign, which is based on the theme Healthy Eyes, Healthy You, is that regular eye examinations are fundamental for healthy living. Not only can an eye examination detect potential problems with your vision it could uncover signs of serious illness such as diabetes, high blood pressure, brain tumours or even an increased risk of strokes.
Commenting on the Week, Iain Anderson, Chairman of the Eyecare Trust said: “We’re delighted to welcome HealthSure as the sponsor of National Eye Week 2006. Together we hope to encourage more people to have regular eye examinations and demonstrate how making subtle changes to your lifestyle can improve eye health and help you to manage or minimise the risk of developing common eye conditions such as macular degeneration or dry eye.”

Activity to support the week will include a comprehensive media relations campaign, the publication of a healthy eyes, healthy you leaflet; the launch of an interactive website providing advice and information on a range of eye health issues and a marketing toolkit designed to help practitioners get involved in promoting the week.
